Join the 2024 Glenolden/Delaware County Christmas Bird Count (CBC) and help count birds for conservation. Launched more than 100 years ago, the Glenolden CBC encompasses much of the county, from the Delaware River to Newtown Square, and Yeadon to Garnet Valley. All day Saturday, teams of birders fan out across the 15-mile diameter circle to count every individual and bird species, from owls, eagles, and ducks, to woodpeckers, waders, and more. Last year 99 participants tallied 99 species – above the 10-year average of 91. Check out details and past CBC reports on our website.
Past CBC participants will be contacted by their section leader for organizing coverage. New birders are welcome to get involved. Contact compiler Rich Horwitz, rjh78@drexel.edu, for more information – we welcome feeder-watchers and field travelers.
One of the areas we are covering is Tyler Arboretum. We have two sessions, one from 5:30 am to 7 am, and another from 8 am to 12 pm. If you would like to join either or both sessions (which are FREE), register here: Session 2: Mid-Morning Christmas Bird Count | Tyler Arboretum
All are welcome to a post-CBC social gathering at Stingers Waterfront restaurant & bar, 401 S. Swarthmore Avenue, Ridley Park (NOT Secane), starting at 4:00 pm on Saturday, December 14. Share about your favorite CBC sightings and celebrate one of the best traditions of the winter season. Food and drink are available for self-purchase. There is ample free parking around this restaurant facing the Ridley marina.
