Join BCDC at Rushton Farm in Chester County for a special evening to see Northern Saw-whet Owls being banded. This outing is generously hosted by Willistown Conservation Trust (WCT), which preserves land from development and nurture landscapes that support wildlife. WCT’s Bird Conservation Program works to enhance and promote bird conservation, with focus on advancing avian research, and through education, fostering a love of birds.
Banding Saw-whet Owls provides valuable information about these diminutive nocturnal predators. During our evening experience, volunteers will share information and show us up-close owls that have been caught in specially-designed nets. (All banding is conducted by federally-licensed banders operating under stringent guidelines. The safety and well-being of birds is the utmost priority).
Pre-registration is required, as capacity is limited for this field trip. RSVP to John Zygmunt at 610-986-4667. Registrants should arrive around dusk (approximately 7:15-7:30 pm) and meet inside the barn. Dress for cold weather and bring a headlamp or flashlight if there is opportunity to walk woodland trails to see the banding nets. Banding will not take place in inclement weather.
